The promise
- A business never sees your phone number or email address. Not on any plan, not ever. It sees the nickname you choose, your visits and points with it, your level, and the rewards you claimed there.
- We don’t sell your information, show you other companies’ adverts, or track you across other apps and websites.
Who we are
LoveYourLocal is run by Runner Technology Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17361012. Registered office: 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. We decide how your information is used, which makes us the “controller” under UK data protection law. Contact: [email protected].
What we keep about customers
| Your account | An account ID. If you sign in, the email address and name from Apple or Google, or the address you sign in with. Never shown to a business. |
|---|---|
| A nickname | What businesses see instead of your name. You choose it and can change it. |
| Cards, points, visits and rewards | Which businesses you visited, when, at which counter, the points earned and the rewards you claimed. This is what the app is for. |
| Sign-in sessions | For each signed-in phone: the IP address and device type it signed in from, so we can keep accounts secure. |
| Rough location | Only while you use Nearby or set up a business, to find businesses near you. If you suggest a business, the place you suggested it from is kept with the suggestion. |
| Precise location | Only if you allow it on your phone. While the app is open, it uses your exact position to notice which business you are standing in, so your card is ready. The position is sent to us to find that business and is not kept with your account. No business is ever told where you are. You can switch it off in your phone’s settings at any time. |
| Notifications | A notification token if you allow notifications, and your choices about offers and news. Offers and news are off unless you turn them on. |
| Crash reports | What went wrong, the app version and the phone model. No name, email or location. |
| A genuine-app check | Google Play Integrity or Apple App Attest confirm a request came from the real app on a real phone. They don’t tell us who you are. |
We don’t ask for your phone number, and we don’t collect payment details from customers.
What we keep about businesses
If you run a business on LoveYourLocal, we also keep the business’s name, address and map location, the people who can manage it and their roles, its offers, rewards and tap cards, and a record of changes made. Your own sign-in details are kept as for any account.
You pay for a subscription on loveyourlocal.app. Stripe handles the payment, and we receive confirmation of your subscription and its status. We never see your card details.
The website
loveyourlocal.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. Fonts and images are served from our own site. Like any website, our servers briefly log each request (the IP address, the page and the time) to keep the site running and secure.
Why we use it
| What for | Our legal reason |
|---|---|
| Running your cards, points, visits and rewards, and showing businesses their own customers’ nicknames and visits | To provide the service you asked for (contract) |
| Running a business’s account and subscription | Contract |
| Keeping accounts secure, checking taps are genuine, preventing fraud and fixing crashes | Our legitimate interest in a safe, fair and working service |
| Service messages, such as a reward ready to collect or a change to these terms | Contract |
| Offers and news | Your consent, which you can withdraw in the app |
| Finding businesses near you, and the one you are in | Your consent, given through your phone’s location permission |
| Keeping records the law requires | Legal obligation |
Who sees it
- A business you visit sees your nickname, your visits and points with it, your level, and the rewards you claimed there. Spend only if its till is connected. Never what you do at another business.
- Our staff see what they need to help you, and every change they make is recorded.
- Companies that run parts of the service for us, only to run it: Railway (our servers, in the EU), Google Firebase (notifications and the genuine-app check), Sentry (crash reports), Stripe (subscription payments), Resend (the emails we send, such as a sign-in code or a password reset), and Apple and Google (the app stores, and signing in with them if you choose).
- Others only if the law requires it, for example a court order.
Outside the UK
Some of these companies process information in the EU or the United States. Where that happens, it is protected by safeguards UK law approves, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
- Your account and cards: until you delete your account. Points can expire sooner, as set out in the terms of use.
- When you delete your account, everything above goes, except that a business keeps a count of taps at its counter with nobody’s name on it.
- Sign-in sessions and notification tokens: until you sign out or the session ends.
- Crash reports and server logs: for a limited time, then deleted automatically.
- Records the law makes us keep: for as long as it requires.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, to object to how we use it, or to give it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
Email [email protected]. We reply within a month. You can also delete your account yourself. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
LoveYourLocal is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly hold their information. If you think a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app before a change that matters takes effect.
